THE ANCIENT IRON BLAST FURNACES OF NORTH GEORGIA

By Nick Flint

In the mid to late 1800's, the iron industry throughout America came, for the most part, from blast furnace production. Some of the stone remnants of these furnaces can be found deep in the woods of north Georgia with some exploration. Being so important to Georgia, and the nation's history of iron production, these furnaces should not be forgotten. This research project provides information and documentation on the furnaces of Bartow and Cherokee County, Georgia. Through this project, I hope to inspire others to learn and appreciate these historical ruins.
